This week's French Fridays with Dorie recipe is a simple cookie recipe called Salted Butter Breakups. The idea is to bake the simple butter cookie dough as a single large rectangle, cross-hatched with a fork to make it pretty, then break off bits as you go to eat it. Unfortunately, as I was going to take this to work, I don't think they would have been enchanted by this idea, so I cut mine into squares.
These are not exciting, but they taste quite good.

Your cookies look tasty! Did you pre-score the dough or did you cut them after the cookie was baked? Great post!
Cake law these look yummy, yummy!! gloria
I don't know--I think it would have been pretty funny to watch your coworkers trying to decide what to do with one huge rectangular cookie. ;-)
Does French Fridays with Dorie are divine! Despite having eaten breakfast not more than one hour ago, I've eaten two already! E
haha that would be a great gift for recently broken up person to cheer them up!
E, glad u liked them.
YC, I scored them before baking so that they broke evenly into squares once baked.
Another simple, but good recipe. Good thinking to pre-score them.
Simple is best! I love the square shape.
"Salted butter breakup?" I can't help but think it sounds like the misadventures of a pastry chef in love. :)
These were so quick and easy to make and perfect to take to work. I am sure your co-workers appreciated them being cut into squares. They look great either way!
Looks great!
Don't you love an easy week? Yours look great :)
I don't know...I think your co-workers would be enchanted no matter what. After all, you are bringing them baked goodies! I like your cookies...they are a little thicker than mine and look quite tempting!
These sound wonderful. I've said it before your co-workers are very lucky to have you pumpering them :) Have a great weekend.
you've got the most perfect squares! I'm still playing FFWD catchup, so I made the cheese bread this week.

It might look like a plain Jane, but it tastes great:) I love the tiny bursts of salt, even though I was a bit leery about using it.
My whole family loved the cookie, and I'll have to make it again pretty soon.
You have some VERY lucky coworkers :) So glad you enjoyed them. FF's is always an adventure and I was delighted at how simple and inexpensive this week was. I got some great ideas on how I might revisit this one in the future. Nana loved it as it was, but I may try the chocolate dipped version next time. Like I need to add chocolate to my slab of butter and sugar :)
Ur pals at works sure must have loved and enjoyed these totally :-)
The cut squares look nice too.
When I saw your photo my first thought was "How did Gaye get those broken in such perfect squares???" lol...well, I get it now...you cut them! They look great...we loved them just for a snack, the adults were eating them with wine and fruit and the kids at the party were eating them with fruit and drinking apple cider...both really good. Fun to learn something so new and different.
I'm sure your co-workers must have fought over those crisped edges! I would have!
These look so good; I'm a big fan of simple, buttery cookies. Good call to cut them up for your coworkers!
