It is Halloween tomorrow, so to get into the spirit of the season, I wanted to bake something Halloween-ish.
Recently, Lorraine of Not Quite Nigella made these Day of the Dead Cookies; I loved them and I had the cutters, so I decided to make them.
Lorraine decorated her cookies with gel pens. I knew I would have transport issues if I used those, so I used edible markers instead.
I think my cookies turned out rather cute:
They were fun to make, even if the decorating process took quite a while. The cookies themselves are delicious.
If you are looking for a fun but tasty item to bake for Halloween, I can highly recommend these cookies.

Gaye, those are adorable. I love them. I had a 6- and 8- year old over to help decorate Halloween cookies this afternoon. Their creations were heavy on the sprinkles. Yours are much more artistic. I'm going to remember these for next year. Happy Halloween!
They look AMAZING Cakelaw! You totally rocked it! Yes gel markers can take a while to set (if at all). I have a few different types of icing pens (I just buy them whenever I got overseas or see them). I wish there were royal icing pens!
These look wonderful. I will have to remember these for next year.
You always seem to have infinite patience! Enjoy the holiday. We expect around 100 trick or treaters tomorrow night.
How about you?
best,

Hi Mae, I live in a small secure apartment block, so I am not expecting any!
Happy Halloween to you too Betsy!
