Apple and Custard Tea Cake

My Pilates class is a great source for recipes because they buy the latest magazines, which I read while I wait for class.  Recently, while reading the Australian Womens Weekly before Pilates, I saw a great recipe for an Apple and Custard Tea Cake.  Isn't the very sound of it delightful?  The article mentioned an online link to the recipe, so when I got home, I printed it off.  You can find the recipe here.

This cake is a sponge filled with custard made from custard powder, then topped with sliced apples, cinnamon and sugar.  Doesn't it look delicious:

This cake would be fabulous served warm with icecream or custard, but it was also good served cold.

I swear, you find the most interesting cake recipes. I have never heard of most of the cake recipes you come up and make and photograph...I'm always excited to get over here and see the cakes! I don't do much experimenting with cakes as my guys do not really like cake all that much...silly them. Anyway, I have made a few of your cakes to share with others and this might have to join that list as it really does sound and look delicious to me. I like the idea of a cake without a lot of frosting most times, so this would be fun to make and eat, I'm sure of it!
