This week’s Tuesday with Dorie recipe is Bruno’s New Year’s Waffles. These waffles are more akin to pizzelles than my idea of waffles.
I flavoured my waffles with vanilla, and not having a pizzelle iron, I used the sandwich maker (which is why they resemble potato chips):
As reviews had stated, these are crispy when they first come out, but very quickly go soft (but are still tasty).
I enjoyed one of these with icecream and raspberries.

oh, this shape looks quite cool plated up with the ice cream! i think my waffle maker is too deep to use on this, so i'll probably skip this one.
These look GREAT!!! What a nice way to start the New Year!
I have a waffle maker for Belgian waffles, they are thick and get crisp with big sugar pieces in the batter. I wish I could make ice cream waffles
Happy New Year! I like your substitution. Ice cream is the best go-along.
Looks like a fine dessert. I thought they were potato chips - would be fun at April Fools if you have the inclination to trick anyone :-)
They do! The smell gives them away though.
Happy New Year Diane!
Yes, I have a pan for the thick fluffy waffles, but alas nit an iron for waffles like this. For the rare occasions that I’d make these, I will stick with the sandwich maker.
Yes, they are a great way to start the new year.
Yes, it’s not worth buying new tools unless you’d get the use out of them.
