FFWD - French Lentils

In the words of Mary, we are the Ladies of the Lentils Brigade this week, as our FFWD recipe is French Lentils.

I wasn't prepared to spring the $6 for lentils du Puy, and I already had some ordinary green lentils, so that is what I used.  I used chicken stock to cook everything up, and I decided to keep the veges and chop them up rather than discard them to make a more complete dish.

And the verdict?  These were pretty good.  I would definitely make them again.

To see what the other Ladies of the Lentils thought, visit the LYL section of the FFWD website.

Oh, those puy lentils are pretty fabulous though!! I wouldn't throw out the vegetables either, what a waste!!! With our Spring being wintry lentils might be the go, yum.

It's a great dish and a good technique to know, right?

I usually don't enjoy lentils, but I am all for trying another recipe to make me because I need the protein :D

Yup, I'd make these again, too! Sometimes, I don't even look at the price of some of these items we have to buy! Too much sticker shock.

Yup. We really enjoyed them around here too. If I could actually find the real du Puy lentils I think I would actually spring for a bag to see what the taste is like.

I used regular lentils also and we loved this recipe.

This was a winner with me too! I love the deep earthy taste of lentils. Definitely a keeper!

I did buy those puy lentils guys but only bought enough for a half recipe. Whole Foods sells them in bulk so, as compared to the chanterelles, they were a bargain. I honestly cannot tell the difference between the Frenchy lentils and just the green lentils. (Okay, my palate isn't that sophisticated.) Still good and I am glad you enjoyed them as well.

Gaye, nice idea to keep the carrots and the celery from cooking the lentils and serving them together with the cooked lentils! Looks like pure comfort food to me.
Have a lovely weekend,
Andrea

Oh, those French lentils are my favorite, they sort of melt in your mouth...I know, I know, sometimes I just splurge on things that I really really like. That said, I like the ones you made as well. And this bowl of goodness looks like just the thing for upcoming fall and winter here. You are so great making all the recipes in the book, what an accomplishment...amazing to see them each week.

You were suppose to discard the veggies... well that would be wasteful and less flavorful... glad you enjoyed it.

I buy the ones at WF too. I happen to love these- I posted what I typically do - served with roasted vegetables and home-made lentils. But I think they are pretty great however. Yours look really fantastic!

I did the same thing as you. Used ordinary lentils and kept the vegetables. I would make this again too.

This is one of my favourite recipes from the book. Although, Nana and Diane have me thinking I need to try sauteing the vegetables first.

Ladies of the Lentils! I love it. I enjoyed this one. I used the vegetables too. I didn't like the idea of throwing them out.

I'm glad to know this worked with plain lentils. I think I actually might prefer them to the expensive kind.
