FFWD - Sugar Coated French Toast
For French Friday with Dorie this week, our assignment was Sugar Coated French Toast. I didn't want to splurge on brioche, so I used Viennese bread instead, and I topped my French toast with natural yoghurt and blueberries.
If you are interested, the recipe is available online here.
This was nice, but not sensational. As this is only a sometimes treat, it is probably just as well that I didn't think it was amazing.
To see what the other Doristas thought, visit the LYL section of the website.

sometimes I like blogging when I enjoy looking at a recipe but have no desire to eat it - this looks great but is not really my thing, no matter how much I try it :-)
Like Johanna and you, this is the kind of thing I love the idea of but am then typically lukewarm about actually eating. I do like your swaps of yoghurt and berries though!
French toast isn't really my thing either - though I love your addition of yoghurt and blueberries :)
Your plate of french toast looks great! Love the smell of vanilla in the custard mix! Definitely a notch up from the usual french toast I made once in a while!
You're right, good but not spectacular, though the crispy sugar coating was definitely interesting. I like your garnishes.
I wish I had berries to go with mine, I think that would have made it perfect!
Yep.it was French toast - tasty, but still, French toast.
Have a nice weekend.
Love the blueberries and yogurt you added to the French Toast.
Hehe that's really quite true. Imagine eating it every day! Nice but not for every day :D
Perfect french Toast topped with natural yoghurt and fresh blueberries - looks quite delicious!
Have a wonderful week1
You're right; it's a sometimes treat.
It better always be a sometimes treat for me - who can handle all those calories. I think this works with all kinds of breads and yours looks yummy. When I was a kid, my Mom sometimes made French toast for Sunday breakfast. Hers was plain and simple, topped with maple syrup or jelly. Now that was a treat also.
I loved this one! Even though I’m a bit late…it was worth waiting for! The yogurt and blueberries make a perfect accompaniment!
I enjoyed this one (though I made an eggnog version) as a dessert. I like your accompaniments!
Your yogurt and blueberries look so nice with this. I just made this today...I'm going back and doing FFWD recipes from Around My French Table as I dropped out after like 35 recipes or so (an overwhelming. time with Alex as you recall) and always regretted not doing more on this book, so I started posting on Fridays with last week and this week recipes from this book and will continue...object is not to make all of them, but the ones that I truly want to make. Anyway, I'll come find your posts on the ones I make so I can see what you made and what you thought. Margaret may join in on occasion and make things she didn't make in the group at the time either. The link to the group is broken and I can't access it...and it's too late to post a link but I did make a FFWD at What's Ap and we are talking about the recipes on that if you want to join in, let me know, since you made them all you can impart your wisdom about the recipes. Anyway...we absolutely loved this French Toast and while it is an occasional thing here, I can't think that I will ever be happy with my original French Toast recipe after having this one. Soooooo good. Yours looks wonderful. And pretty.
