FFwD - Saint-Germain-Des-Pres Onion Biscuits

This week's French Friday with Dorie had me a little confused by the word "biscuits".  You see, in Australia, a biscuit is a cookie, and a scone is an American biscuit.  Accordingly, I was anticipating savoury cookies, not savoury scones.

That said, these were quick and easy to make.  Dorie suggested a 1 1/2 inch cutter for the scones, so I used the top off my cinnamon bottle to make tiny 1 1/2 inch biscuits. They rose quite well, although that is not evident from the photo.

These are pleasant little treats which would probably go down well at a cocktail party on their own, or if made bigger in diameter, spread while hot with a smear of butter or margarine.

You can find the recipe in Around My French Table, or online here.  I made the recipe as stated, except that I used my trusty pastry cutter to rub the flour into the butter - so much easier and less messy.

Check out what the other Dorie cooks though of these biscuits at the LYL section of the FFwD website when it is Friday in the US.

Your 'biscuits' or what I would call, 'savoury scones' look very nice. I'm sure they had great flavour with the onion in them.

Looks like a yummy bite. Cookie, biscuit or scone it's still delicious!

Great looking biscuits! I used a cookie cutter myself for stamping out the dough.

Whatever you call them, they sound good!

I get confused by scones that are really biscuits :-) There should be a cross-reference dictionary for things like this.
Have a great weekend.

I still get caught out by the biscuit/cookie terminology on American blogs - but these sound delicious anyway

I get really confused too! I tell my American friends i'm making 'scones' then they come back and say 'you're making biscuits' it gets so confusing hehe.

But your Onion biscuits look lovely ;) I dunno why but I think they'll go so well with a hot bowl of soup hehe

Your biscuits/scones are so pretty. I had forgotten that you call them something different in Australia. Hope you were disappointed when you got something a little savory instead of sweet. We really enjoyed these. Well, especially me. :) I hope you have a great weekend!

Such pretty biscuits. I always enjoy your posts and love to see what is happening on the opposite side of our world. I forget to use my pastry cutter...used to get it out all the time, but with food processors, etc. it goes unused...thanks for reminding me.

I've always thought of biscuits and scones as distinctly different kinds of baked goods. Now that you point it out, they are really the same thing. What a revelation. And your savory biscuits look lovely!

Oh, those look nice. Yes, I always have to remind myself when you are talking about biscuits, you are talking about cookies! I have been successfully translating that for months now! ;-)
