Sara and Erica of Baking JDs were our March 2012 Daring Baker hostesses! Sara & Erica challenged us to make Dutch Crunch bread, a delicious sandwich bread with a unique, crunchy topping. Sara and Erica also challenged us to create a one of a kind sandwich with our bread!
I made the bread - no sandwich - I don't have time.
Here is the dough:
and here is the dough with the crackle topping on it:
and here is a peek inside the finished loaf:
It tasted very nice, with a soft texture inside. It also answered the question for me of how they made tiger bread (which is sold at Brumbys here). Thanks to our hosts, Sara & Erica, who will have the recipe on their site.

What a fun looking loaf. I would love to make it.
I've never heard of tiger bread, but it looks great!
I didn't have time for the sandwich either hahaha I loved the recipe too your bread looks great!
I like dutch crunch bread, but have never thought to make it. Your loaf looks great!
Love this bread look amazing!
Interesting. I'd be curious to taste this as it looks like a giant cookie, but you say it's soft sandwich bread. Great post!
Your topping looks so nice.
This was an interesting treatment for the bread - I have never tried anything quite like it before...
Your tiger bread is gorgeous! When I made mine, I realized at the last moment that I didn't have rice flour so I tried making my own. I don't know if that was the problem or maybe it was my yeast, but my bread totally deflated after I put the topping on.
I think your bread looks very good. Love the golden crunch on the top. How lovely to have your own fresh-from-the-oven bread! xx
tHE TIGER SHAPE HAS COME OUT BEAUTIFULLY;
I didn't make the sandwich for the post because I was so rushed I didn't realise that we had to make a sandwich! :P
Such an interesting crackle! Looks delicious. Thanks for joining us this month!
Tiger Bread - what a great name for it. Your loaf looks beautiful.
Looks great! I made a version of this as Tiger Rolls from our Nick Malgieri Bake! book and it was such fun to make...my crunchy topping turned out a little darker and we all decided it should be called Giraffe Rolls or Giraffe Bread rather than Tiger Rolls as it looks more like Giraffe skin. Either way, it was fun and tasted unique and different...I loved it in roll form as we each got one all to ourselves.
Ohh have you changed the layout of your blog :) I really like the purple~ I've never heard of tiger bread would love to try some :D
