It's Friday again, and that means French Fridays with Dorie. This week's recipe, to close out July, is Lemon Barley Pilaf.
I have never cooked with barley before, so this was a new experience for me. I really liked this tasty side dish, which I served with last week's salmon. It is a colourful alternative to rice or mashed potato, and has a lovely nutty quality.

Your pilaf looks very colorful.
I like working with some of the different grains - rice is such an easy fall back, but there are many tasty choices out there :-)
Ooh, this looks wonderful. Such a beautiful dish!
I like the colors here and I can see the texture turned out more like pilaf than mine did. I may have overcooked it though it was still chewy. Still, I love barley and the flavors were quite good.
You sure made a colorful dish! I like barley and this is easy and a good side dish.
Beautiful and it looks extremely tasty as well. Might have to pull out the book for this one this weekend, it would go great with grilled chicken I have slotted in for tomorrow. Thanks. How on earth do these Fridays come around so quickly each week? You are doing a great job of keeping up with the group and making all the entries!
This was my first foray into cooking barley, too. Glad you liked it! I did, too.
I really enjoyed this one. I'm excited to try some different variations when the weather cools off!
I never seem on the ball enough to do two recipes at once so I'm always impressed when people do. I bet this tasted very nice with the salmon from last week. Great job!
Your dish looks so colorful and tasty. And I have to say that your barley also looks darker than mine, I wonder if there are different types. Interesting. I do love barley so I'm happy to hear that you have discovered it.
Beautiful colors! :) So glad you enjoyed it.
Your dish looks so colorful and entirely enticing! To me, barley has always been associated with sweets and drinks, maybe it's what I grew up knowing. I haven't done my pilaf yet, but I might switch the barley with some other grain just for fun.
Such a lovely looking pilaf…we really enjoyed it, too! Have a great weekend!
Yours looks golden and delicious!
The colours in your bowl are gorgeous. I often think the Doristas in the southern hemisphere get short shrift with our recipe picks, but this one really works no matter the weather.
looks so colourful and delicious
