BWJ - Semolina Bread

This week's Baking with Julia challenge transports us to Italy to make rustic Semolina Bread.  Our hosts are Renee of The Way to My Family's Heart and Anna of Keep It Luce.

This bread was straight forward enough to make.  Melbourne was even blessed with sunshine on the day I made this bread, so it rose like a beauty.  Here's a peek inside:

The texture of the bread was coarser than bread made with plain flour because of the semolina, but still tasty.

To see how the other BWJ bakers fared, visit the LYL section of the website.

My slashes are way off..Your bread looks good. I did not get the rise I thought I would but it tasted great!

Very nice. This was a nice dough to work with.
In the Northern Hemisphere, we seem to be having a bit too much heat :-)

I have a big bag of semolina which I'm not sure what to do with! Perhaps something like this!:D

Your loaf really rose lovely - unlike mine!
Glad you liked it.

Mmmm. I must have rolled mine the wrong way, it was a circle loaf instead of oblong... Oh well. Your looks beautiful!

Great looking bread and wonderful photo! My bread ended up in a loaf pan because it was spreading too much! Thanks for sharing.

I am jealous of how nicely your loaf puffed rose. Mine is a pancake. But it was tasty!

Looks wonderful, Gaye...just really nice inside and out. I have made bread several times with semolina and am not a big fan of it, so I thought I wouldn't make this, but after seeing yours, maybe I should reconsider. I love baking bread.

I've started putting some semolina flour in my pizza bases - did you add the semolina flour or the grainier one - looks good and it has been nice to have a few sunny days lately

I've never tried it!

We all seemed to like this recipe. Yours rose a bit more than mine but I "slashed" early. Damn, I hate that when it happens. Nice job and I am glad you are having sunny days.

I like the look of your slashes - makes the bread look really appealing. We skipped this one, as three recipes in one month would have been a little difficult to schedule together.

Your bread looks lovely; my slashes got lost in the baking and it didn't rise a lot. Still, I liked this bread.
