TWD - Tarte Fine

If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, then this week's Tuesday with Dorie pick by Leslie of Lethally Delicious is just what the doctor ordered. She chose Dorie's Tarte Fine, comprising a sheet of puff pastry topped with paper thin apple slices and sugar, and glazed with apricot jam.

My Tarte Fine was perhaps not so fine, because I wasn't going to get out my mandolin to shave off thin apple slices, and my knife-cut slices were perhaps not as thin as Dorie intended. But hey, with ingredients like this, how can you go wrong - it tasted great regardless. It is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla icecream.

Thanks to Leslie for hosting us this week - she will have the recipe. To check out everyone else's tartes fine, visit out the TWD blogroll.

Pshhh, whatever you did to those apples, this looks delicious :) It's getting pretty cool here, so this would make an excellent fall dessert!

Hehe I know what you mean. Getting out the mandolin is a bit of a production for me too (it's in the back of the cupboard :P ). Still it looks lovely!

I don't think I got mine right, either, but I agree that it was delicious. You'll just have to take my word for it. as my post isn't up yet.

I had some beautifully thin slices and some ungainly ones. The luck of the draw.

Yours looks just right to me.

Beautiful tart! I would have thought you used a mandolin, your slices look so uniform. Thanks for baking with me this week!

I think I'd prefer a Tarte Chunk anyway.. something to sink your teeth into properly. Looks good and yes am sure with a massive scoop of ice cream would be a perfect dessert!

I didn't shave mine, I sliced them as thin as I could.

Looks more rustic that way.

It looks great too. I'm picturing it hot with the ice cream melting all over it. Better go eat some breakfast.

I think yours is beautiful. Love the way the crust rose around the apples!

i figured that there was a problem when i cut my apple quarters easily into 7 slices and they still had thickness to them. but i was already an apple in before i noticed, so i went with it. still tasted great!!

Your tart looks great! I didn't even think of the mandolin to slice the apples. I ate the thicker slices!

This one was great, wasn't it? I am afraid of mandolines so I gave mine away long ago. I like the rustic look anyway!

I can't wait to try this recipe. It looks so good and so easy. Like Jess, I'm a bit afraid of mandolins, so I'll be slicing my apples by hand!

Mandolin slices are very pretty but the tool is dangerous so I only use when I absolutely have to. I love apple tarts - this one looks rustic and delicious.
