This week’s TWD recipe is Mary’s Maine Bars. These bars are best described as gingerbread without the ginger, packed with molasses (treacle in my case) and spices.
These bars are delicious on their own, but I reckon they’d be terrific served warm topped with custard.
To see what everyone else made this week and what they thought of it, visit the LYL section of the TWD website.

Gingerbread without ginger😎Looks very tasty in any case
So interesting how they taste like gingerbread with no ginger! I also m=baked these in a loaf tin and got similar shaped "bars" (the ones in the book are what I'd call slices, definitely not cookies though!). these were so good!
Thanks Ulrike - it definitely is.
Yes, I baked mine the same way as you using a quarter recipe. They are so good!
They look and sound great! But truth be told, I'd be tempted to add some ginger, lol.
Can't wait to make these. When I saw the photo, I thought they were chocolate, so imagine my big smile when they aren't! Yours look wonderful. I like the idea of making a smaller batch, thanks for the tips on doing that, so helpful.
Yup these were good. Glad you enjoyed them.
I like these a lot, and think you are very right about the custard!
