FFWD - Jerusalem Artichoke Soup with Parsley Coulis
For French Friday with Dorie this week, we are once again visiting the unattainable Jerusalem artichoke for Jerusalem Artichoke Soup with Parsley Coulis.
Well, I made Potato Soup with Chopped Parsley - near enough, eh? This soup turned out thick and brown, and looks like nearly every other Dorie soup that I have ever made. it tastes OK, but it is not a favourite and won't be repeated in my house.
To see what the other Doristas thought of this soup, visit the LYL section of the website.

Gaye, you should definitely try this when you can find sunchokes! I always feel sorry for you when all the North American Doristas are bemoaning that they can't find an ingredient - because if we can't, you most certainly can't!
Hehe I know how much you love soups! ;) Sounds like this definitely wasn't one of your favourites!
I did a make-up post with the leek and potato soup from back in 2010. Kudos to you for trying to adapt the recipe with the ingredients you had.
LOL..we have made some bland looking soups. Even with the Jerusalem artichokes, it won't be repeated. On to next week :)
Sorry you didn't like this one. I am not a fan of Jerusalem artichokes, but they are readily available in my area.
Have a great weekend!
I also used potatoes. My husband has enjoyed me participating in French Fridays. His only complaint is that Dorie keeps coming up with soups that shouldn't be soups! We thought this was ok but not worth repeating...at least as potato soup!
I found Jerusalem artichokes and did enjoy the soup…sorry this was not a winner for you. Oh well…moving on to next week! Happy Friday!
Yup, earth colors do reign supreme in the soup category :-)
You are a good sport keeping up with our Northern hemisphere focused ingredient hunt.
This was not a winner here and I'll be very happy if I never see another jerusalem artichoke.
Gaye, sunchokes are a wonderful vegetable to try but if they are unattainable, then potatoes sound like a great substitute - how nice that you went through the trouble of making another cream soup for this FFwD - the kids are all for creamy veg soup these days, so they liked this weeks´ recipe a lot.
Have a great Sunday,
Andrea
We have had a lot of soups in the earth tone range, haven't we? This soup was a hit for us with the Jerusalem artichokes. And I agree with Mardi, you and Sanya have had your work cut out for you trying to adapt our Northern Hemisphere-centric recipe choices.
I still haven't found the elusive Jerusalem artichokes either. I am glad I skipped this one.
You're right, that is very earthy looking soup. Given all the trouble North American Doristas have had finding this elusive vegetables, which is native to North America, I'm guessing you'll never get to try the original recipe in Australia.
I went your route even though I could get the JA's. Potato leek simply wins in my book. Interesting how the color variations turn out with different potatoes. Mine was a bit lighter but again, we are all dealing with "neutral" thick soups for most of Dorie's recipes (maybe we had a green asparagus one way back....). Nice job regardless but sorry this wasn't more of a hit for you.
