TWD - Chocolate Spice Quickies

This week's Tuesday with Dorie recipe, selected by Jessica of My Baking Heart, is Chocolate Spice Quickies.  As the name suggests, these are little chocolate flavoured cookies, containing crushed almonds and not a great deal of spice (I used cloves).

The title of this recipe would imply that they are quick to make, but this is not true.  You need to chill the dough for 4 hours, and there is a bit of fussing around with melting chocolate and shaping logs along the way.  As I started making these at 7.30pm on the night before posting day, needless to say I froze my logs for an hour or so instead of chilling them.

These cookies were OK, but not a knockout. They are definitely pleasant, but they didn't have the added zing to make me love them.

Thanks to our host, Jessica - she will have the recipe, or buy the book.  To see some more of these cookies, visit the LYL section of the TWD website.

They look quite nice! I'm not a big fan of chocolate and spice, so I skipped these. I wonder why they're called quickies?

I'm sorry to hear that after all that work they were "blah"! You had me interested with the chocolate and the almonds and spices.

Your cookies turned out great, but after my disaster with Dorie's pecan sandies, I'll be holding off on trying another of her cookie recipes for awhile.

Thanks Gloria.

Jill, I think Dorie's perpsective is that because you can freeze the logs and whip them out to bake as needed, this is "quick" - not for me!

Hi Lauren, they were OK - pleasant in the same way that a packet of biscuits from the supermarket might be.

YC, sorry to hear that your first Dorie cookie experience was negative. I can only exhort you to try again on another recipe in your own time - I have found most of her recipes to be very good.

Oh the name does suggest that they are quick but chilling for 4 hours is quite a bit longer than normal cookie dough!

I did not bother to chill the dough. I figured all the ingredients were going to make a yummy cookie so I just mixed and dropped;) They turned out super yuummy! ALl though they don't look as good as yours! Sorry they were not a knock out for you. I liked them but most likely I won't make them again.

Quickies is an odd name for any biscuit but even odder if they aren't quick to make - maybe it means they are eaten quickly :-)

These look similar to the World Peace cookies! Sorry they weren't stellar for you!

Your cookies look delicious even if they didn't taste as good as they looked. I did increase the amount of spice, and I think you can play with the flavorings quite a bit.

They look really pretty! I like making these type of cookies during the holidays especially with the spices.
