FFwD - Goat Cheese and Strawberry Tartine
Life is full of surprises, and this week's French Fridays with Dorie recipe is no exception. We had to make Goat Cheese and Strawberry Tartine, which I imagined to be a tart, but is in fact, bread topped with goats cheese, strawberries and balsamic vinegar.
Instead of baguette, I used apricot delight fruit loaf. I tried it with the bread both fresh and toasted, and loved it both ways. This truly was superb - it is so good that when I ran out of strawberries, I kept going with tinned peach slices instead, which is an equally delicious combination.
Who knew that goat cheese and strawberries on bread tasted fabulous? Dorie obviously, but I don't recall of anyone else ever suggesting such a thing. All I can say is try it- I loved it.

Tartine = open faced sandwich and OMG - you mentioned "Apricot Delight" - that takes me back (and makes me miss home!). I LOVED this one :)
Oh that looks so wonderful! I imagine you could change it up with the bread types and the fruit types and be delighted each and every time. I want one now. I have raspberries and goat cheese...could be a happening thing soon.
sounds just what I would love right now - but I think I would add some caramelised walnuts too (after making some the other weekend) if dorie doesn't mind (I always think tartine is a tart too)
Yes - it is a great combination. Better than jam on bread, I think.
Wow it sounds like you really liked this combo! Do you think the apricot bread helped too? Because I think that sounds like a really nice combo with the additional dried fruit :)
Apricot loaf is a great change, this looks super delicious :D

This one seems to be a winner all around! I love your tweak with an apricot bread!
I made it with some very ripe and flavorful cherries we had on hand and the were fantastic. I will be throwing chevre in the shopping cart for the summer I'm sure.
I think this works on almost any kind of bread. Maybe not pumpernickle.. hmmm. your bread sounds great.
You’re right…this was a wonderful combination! The bread you chose sounds wonderful. A winner for sure!
I loved this one too! where did you find such a bread? it sounds delightful!
I'm not familiar with Apricot Delight but it sounds good! I used different fruits too. Its hard to go wrong with good bread and good cheese.
I'm going to have to do this one right with goat cheese instead of feta!
I like where you took this suggestion of a recipe. I'm going to be having variations of this all summer, I think.
oh i can imagine that it must've been awesome with your apricot loaf. i used a multigrain pain de campagne and it did not disappoint either!
I'm with you, I never would have dreamed of putting goat cheese and strawberries together. Thank you Dorie!
Nice to know that this is even a winner with the canned peaches- amazing. Your apricot bread option sounded lovely as well. I just adored this combo and would 100% never have thought of it were it not for Dorie. My family still can't believe it had pepper OR vinegar and tasted this fabulous.....
What is apricot delight fruit loaf? It sounds like something we should be making this week along with our back-of-the-card cheese and olive loaf? And, I bet it was wonderful with the goat cheese/strawberry concoction. It didn't matter to me either - toasted or fresh - I liked both versions. Betsy and I are happy to post the LYL on Thursday evening before we go to bed if that helps you.
Hi Alice, Apricot Delight is a product from Bakers Delight bakery in Australia - they are a franchise chain:

Apricot delight fruit loaf does sound like a very interesting combination with the goat cheese strawberry topping for your lovely tartines!
Nice combination of different taste elements!
Have a lovely Monday!
I think making this on fruited bread would be amazing. What a great twist. I'm glad that Dorie thought of this one.
I know! Right! Strawberries on bread with goat's cheese, who would have thought it would taste so good!
The fruit bread sounds like a fantastic idea.
