Baking with Julia this week, hosted by Heather of Heather's Bytes, has taken me to new territory - making bagels. I have never made a bagel before, and I was a little wary of the boiling then baking process. However, it wasn't as scary as I thought, and I was very happy with the end result.
I wanted sweet bagels, so I topped mine with cranberries, chopped walnuts and sugar:
I slathered a bagel in fig jam for the taste test:
Passed with flying colours!
Visit the LYL section of the Baking with Julia website to see what the other bakers thought of these bagels.

I love making bagels...the variety is endless and they are easy to make...I used to make a lot more of them when the swimmer was home to eat them constantly. These looks good, will give them a go next time he is home.
They look great! Love the toppings you added. I agree that these weren't as scary as they seemed.
They look great..I like the toppings you chose!
oooo - cranberries! Yum.
Well done!
wowo love them, looks so good.
Mmmmmm....I love your version! Perfect with jam :)
really interesting topping you used. I went the more conventional route of sesame seeds.
Well done! Glad they tasted great!
I love your toppings! I wanted to do something like that, but I chickened out. Next time!
I fall in love with this tempting treat right away
What creative toppings!
Yes, this was so much less scary than the 4 page recipe made me think. It was a lot of work, but worth the effort because they were so delicious! Glad you liked them!
I love your toppings / flavourings! My sort of bagels indeed.
Your bagels look great and sweet toppings is such a good idea!
Your bagels look delicious. These scared me so I didn't make them. Looks like I better rethink them.
So glad you liked them! I am trying a sweet version now and I am glad yours turned out well. Nice job!

Perfectly done! Love your toppings…I thought of incorporating raisins and cinnamon in mine…next time!
Ooh, yummy toppings!
Sorry I’m late!
Tonight I've started this delicious „tour des blogs“ to see how the 85 bagels turned out. I love your combo!
I had great fun making and bathing and baking them and will remake them for sure
I never would have thought to top my bagels with dried cranberries like that (instead of working them into the dough)... great idea!
