Welcome to Wednesday! This week, Kayte of Grandma's Kitchen Table and I are making brown-buttered beans for Wednesdays with Donna Hay.
If you have never tried browned-butter, then I can highly recommend it to you. It involves cooking the butter until it turns brown, which in turn makes the flavour nutty, and makes it a perfect accompaniment to sweet and savoury dishes.
This is the first time that I have used browned butter in a savoury dish (as far as I can remember, anyway), and it gave a superb flavour to the steamed green beans, which are also topped with roasted pine nuts for crunch. How good is that?
Kayte is cooking these along with me - go visit Kayte to see her beans. And of course, you are welcome to cook along with us - the recipes are online at donnahay.com.au.
Next week: Puffed cheese omelette

What a delicious combination! I'll definitely have to try it out.
that's a super-good sounding bean dish. i love donna hay! i pay an arm and a leg for her magazine over here, but it's so worth it. and i was really upset to have to move from sydney just a month or so before her general store was set to open there.
The browned butter sounds delicious on these beans. Great post!
Mmm brown butter makes everything better doesn't it! :D
I'm all for adding extra flavor when cooking green beans. The pine nuts sound like a really good addition as well.
Browned butter improves the taste of most anthing. This looks yummy.
Oh, these were good! I loved that they made great use of a veggie that is out of season here right now and gave it a depth and pop of flavor to brighten up the fact that green beans are out of season right now...a good deal for me to have a new recipe to use. Thanks for choosing it. I just love Donna Hay's recipes! Yours look really great with all those nuts piled up on the whole pile. I just took a photo of my portion...seeing the whole together is much more exciting!
That looks really delicious! I've never made brown butter, but I've seen so many tasty-looking recipes that use it.
Oh, I love browned butter - especially the lovely little burnt butter biscuits my aunt used to make.
I love beans, both green or dried, and will be putting this on my list when I get home.
YUM! I'm gonna try this recipe because my boyfriend hates beans but I don't think he can resist it when there's brown butter!
Finally made these and they were tasty with the browned butter. Definitely a repeat.
