This French Friday with Dorie required us to make a very healthy salad with squash, carrot and salad greens, and an unusual vanilla flavoured dressing. The vegetables are shaved into fine strips before being dressed.
I am not really a salad person, but this one was OK. I served with fish for a light lunch.
There's not much else to say, I'm afraid. To see what the other Doristas thought, visit the LYL section of the website.
I'm pushed for time and very nearly didn't get this one done. But I did and didn't have anything to say! I was NOT a fan.
ReplyDeleteFor a light lunch, this would have been lovely :)
ReplyDeleteI like how it is shaved, how classy!
Cheers

Yes, this was light and the vanilla subtle. It can be dress up or down!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting! I did a bit of a double take when I saw vanilla and vegetable salad. I've had vanilla with meat and it was quite nice.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was nice. We do eat salads often and it's always good to have one more easy dressing recipe in the back burner.
ReplyDeleteThis one left me feeling a little conflicted too. I liked the idea, but I had mixed feelings about it in reality.
ReplyDeleteI did leave out the greens, which I think helped the cause :-)
Have a nice weekend!
LOL...sometimes I have nothing to say as well. I was surprised that I liked this salad (but I love most salads!). Have a terrific weekend!
ReplyDeleteA vanilla dressing sounds intriguing - not something I'd ever have thought of but potentially good!
ReplyDeleteI liked the idea of the veggies, but the addition of vanilla did nothing for me. I prefer my same old oil
ReplyDeleteand vinegar dressing. Have a great weekend.
It is really a very pretty salad, but we did not care for
ReplyDeletethe vanilla in it. But at least we tried something knew.
I thought there wasn't much to say about this one either. It was OK. It did make a fine lunch though.
ReplyDeleteWhen Diane posted earlier in the week that the salad tasted like vanilla ice cream, I just decided to turn elsewhere. There are so many great recipes I haven't made so I wanted to do one of those. I'm still not convinced that this is a recipe that I should ever try. I love vanilla in sugar cookies and tapioca pudding and many baked pastries and desserts but in salad, not so much. You get points for trying, Gaye.
ReplyDeleteA light lunch is definitely the way to go with this one.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really of fan of this either. Pretty bland and boring! We tried.
ReplyDeleteGolly this vegetable salad looks so fresh and wonderful...perfect choice with fish, but I can see it with steak here as well. Better get that book off the shelf and mark it for very soon. Your photo is lovely.
ReplyDeletesimply delicious and healthy salad!!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it, but I think I'd like to try it on a salad with figs or strawberries in the mix.
ReplyDeleteLike you said not much to say about this one. My family asked that I not make this one again.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this as a light lunch with some cheese and really enjoyed it! I actually gave the dressing a second chance by using it over arugula, figs and goat cheese…very nice! It is kind of hard to get excited over a salad!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! It was hard to think of much to say about this one. Hopefully next week's will be better.
ReplyDeleteThis one was a little strange... At least it was quick and easy!
