FFwD - Fresh Tuna, Mozzarella, and Basil Pizza - sort of

This week's French Fridays with Dorie recipe was Fresh Tuna, Mozzarella, and Basil Pizza.  And I made it - sort of.

I did use fresh tuna that I cut into mangled slices.  I did use puff pastry, albeit a seemingly smaller size of round than was asked for.  I used cheddar instead of mozzarella, I used baby spinach instead of basil, I used whole tomatoes instead of cherry tomatoes and I skipped the fresh ginger and olives because I didn't have any.  Ummm ... so I guess that makes mine a Fresh Tuna, Cheddar and Spinach Pizza.

My reasoning for all of this innovation is that I didn't want to buy a whole heap of stuff that I wouldn't otherwise use and then be stuck with leftovers that would go to waste.  Also, I had to buy baby spinach for another recipe and I already had cheddar and I don't eat lots of cheese.  Simple.

The pizza still tasted good to me as Sunday lunch.

  1. Well you know at least ONE Dorista will approve (ahem, hello CHER!!) of the adaptation ;) Seriously, looks great!

I skipped the tuna, mozzarella and basil on mine...

  3. That's totally fair enough that you didn't want to buy a whole lot of new ingredients! It sounds good still :)

  8. I am a regular adapter, but I have to honestly say this was a great combination of ingredients, esp. the ginger which was really unusal. I hope you'll try the orginal. I just used the left overs to make salads.

  9. I love this pizza and I'm glad you use ingredients that works for you rather than buying a bunch of other things that would ended up go to waste. :) I'm sure the flavor is still wonderful. Have a good weekend.

  11. Sounds like this was a week for substitutes for many of us. Your version sounds tasty though.

  12. I was feeling guilty about MY substitution but now... :) Next time I'll just sub in pepperoni for the ahi and be done with it. You know we all wanted to do that anyway.

  13. At least you made it (more than I can say for myself !). And I love that you used what you had around and enjoyed it. We have enough weeks that involve buying $10 bottles of cardamom, swordfish, etc - but it all tastes wonderful in the end ~

  14. I enjoyed reading about your version of this recipe as it is always interesting to see how others adapt a recipe or make something similar out of what they have, etc. I'm with you about not wanting to buy large amounts of ingredients that will take me forever to use...was easier to use things when the boys were young and at home but now they are older and off at school and it's just Mark and I here eating. Your photo of it all was very nice.
