This week's French Fridays with Dorie challenge was Salmon with Basil Tapenade. I don't often cook salmon, not because I don't like it, but because it is soooo expensive. This piece of Tasmanian salmon cost me $9 - about the same price as I would normally pay for meat for the week. However, I am a Dorie disciple, so for this week, I took the hit.
And what a very nice hit it was too. I was glad that olive tapenade from a while ago was also useful for this dish. This salmon was simple to make and delicious to eat. I paired it with two other Dorie dishes allocated for this month - the ginger pickled cucumbers (first week of July) and the lemon barley pilaf (next week):
Your salmon looks perfect. My pan wasn't hot enough when i put it in and so I didn't get nice color on it. But it was still very tasty.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful salmon dish my friend, it looks perfect :D
ReplyDeleteCheers

It looks good.
ReplyDeleteI went a different route & grilled mine. We had ours with the pilaf too!
Wow that is expensive, but that looks like a large piece so maybe it is in line with what we get for pricing here as well. All that looks wonderful. You are such a good Dorie devotee!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a lovely way to prepare salmon - and now I'm looking forward to hearing about the lemon barley pilaf too!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking recipes. Hubby goes to Alaska fishing. He brings home plenty of fresh salmon, I'm always looking for new ways to cook it.
ReplyDeleteMmm it looks so delicious!
ReplyDeleteThis looks perfect for a quick but tasty dinner. I find salmon expensive too. A shame because it's supposed to be so good for us :S
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the salmon, especially considering the price!
ReplyDeleteIt looks really nice and super delicious!
ReplyDeleteI have actually, shockingly, never cooked salmon before. Even though I love it so much.
ReplyDeleteYours looks SO good, I really need to try making some sometime!
Nice, three recipes on the same plate! I know what you mean about salmon being expensive. I only splurge when they're in season so luckily have been enjoying salmon a few times recently. Do you find the fish standing up to the strong taste of tapenade?
ReplyDeleteI limited the amount of tapenade on top so that it wasn't overwhelming.
DeleteGood salmon is expensive! If wild salmon doesn't fit in my budget I just do without but like you I am a Dorie disciple so I forked over $15.00 for my fish! It was delicious, though, wasn't it? I envy you having tapenade on hand. That made this dish pretty easy!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I love that you added peas to the pilaf - I was thinking that would be a great addition. I love it when the recipes all come together like this.
ReplyDeleteNice job killing three recipes with one meal. I still haven't gotten around to making those cucumbers, of all the easy things in the world. They just sound lame to me. I'll try them one of these days. Glad you enjoyed your very, very expensive salmon.
ReplyDeleteLooks good! I should learn to look ahead as that pilaf seems the perfect thing to go with this. And by itself I don't think it will make for an exciting post next week. lol.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you made the salmon. Worth it, right?!
ReplyDeleteCongrats my friend, do I have a treat for you :D

Thanks!
DeleteI sometimes forget how lucky we are in Vancouver when it comes to seafood. We've got plenty of it at great prices. It makes up for clothes being so much more expensive than they are back east, I guess. I like that you did three of this month's recipes together - I was not that organized!
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic paired wit the pickled cucumbers
ReplyDeleteand lemon barley pilaf. We all enjoyed this recipe
and will definitely repeat it again.
What a great Dorie trifecta! I hope you enjoyed them all.
ReplyDeleteNice salmon...this is perfect for dinner...yum!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week ahead :)
Yeah, I purchased wild sockeye and I closed my eyes as I handed over the credit card. For Dorie, right? I think we all enjoyed this. I really liked the cucumbers also. That was a mixed bag for others. Haven't done the pilaf yet (yours looks delicious) but think I am going the salad route. Dorie's salad idea with pilaf looks delicious also. Nice post.
