This week's Baking with Julia challenge transports us to Italy to make rustic Semolina Bread. Our hosts are Renee of The Way to My Family's Heart and Anna of Keep It Luce.
This bread was straight forward enough to make. Melbourne was even blessed with sunshine on the day I made this bread, so it rose like a beauty. Here's a peek inside:
The texture of the bread was coarser than bread made with plain flour because of the semolina, but still tasty.
My slashes are way off..Your bread looks good. I did not get the rise I thought I would but it tasted great!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. This was a nice dough to work with.
ReplyDeleteIn the Northern Hemisphere, we seem to be having a bit too much heat :-)
I have a big bag of semolina which I'm not sure what to do with! Perhaps something like this!:D
ReplyDeleteI really need to get me some semolina!
ReplyDeleteLooks good! I see it with melted butter with a good cup of coffee.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful loaf! This was a perfect TWD pick, we loved it.
ReplyDeleteVery nice loaf! This is a great bread, glad you liked it!
ReplyDeletethat would be a great loaf for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteYour loaf really rose lovely - unlike mine!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it.
Mmmm. I must have rolled mine the wrong way, it was a circle loaf instead of oblong... Oh well. Your looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking bread and wonderful photo! My bread ended up in a loaf pan because it was spreading too much! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletei thought this was tasty, too. good for toast!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking loaf! Good to hear about the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous of how nicely your loaf puffed rose. Mine is a pancake. But it was tasty!
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful, Gaye...just really nice inside and out. I have made bread several times with semolina and am not a big fan of it, so I thought I wouldn't make this, but after seeing yours, maybe I should reconsider. I love baking bread.
ReplyDeleteI've started putting some semolina flour in my pizza bases - did you add the semolina flour or the grainier one - looks good and it has been nice to have a few sunny days lately
ReplyDeleteI've never tried it!
ReplyDeleteWe all seemed to like this recipe. Yours rose a bit more than mine but I "slashed" early. Damn, I hate that when it happens. Nice job and I am glad you are having sunny days.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of your slashes - makes the bread look really appealing. We skipped this one, as three recipes in one month would have been a little difficult to schedule together.
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks professional my friend, how lovely :D
ReplyDeleteAnd delciioius!
Cheers

Your bread looks lovely; my slashes got lost in the baking and it didn't rise a lot. Still, I liked this bread.
ReplyDeleteYum, your bread turned out great!
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks delish! Beautiful! I love the name of your blog, by the way!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI have only just started making bread, and I've got to say, it's a lot of fun! Yours looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteBoy, you got a great rise! Looks like a perfect loaf!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bread…looks delicious!!
ReplyDeletei loved the chewy-ness of this bread. Yours looks just right. The semolina texture reminded me of cornbrad.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job on your semolina bread, the slashes look perfect and you did get a nice rise, it must have been delicious;-) Looks like you've been busy with FFWD and TWD this month, I am so behind!
