BWJ - Rugelach
Don't you just adore it when you unexpectedly love something? That was the case with this week's Baking with Julia, hosed by Jessica of My Baking Heart and Margaret of The Urban Hiker, who chose Rugelach. Rugelach are a Jewish cookie/pastry made with a cream cheese pastry and filled with fruit preserves, fruits, nuts and spices. Traditionally they are made in a crescent shape, but this recipe made the cookies in a roll shape.
I filled my rugelach with plain old apricot jam, dried apricots, raisins and almonds. They were totally delicious - so addictive that I ate 4 of them myself before turning them over to the crowd, which is unheard of for me.

Your rugelach came out beautifully! They are totally addictive.
ReplyDeleteThey look lovely! They were tasty, but mine were a mess.
ReplyDeleteOh nice :) What are rugelach? I've never heard of them before ~ But as long as their a type of cookie or pastry I'm sure I'll like it :P
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Oh, I better get busy--this looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThey were super tasty!
ReplyDeletenever made them but have had them on my to do list - your love of them will bump them up the list just a little (if they sounded easier they might go up even higher but they seem fiddly)
ReplyDeleteJohanna, I won't lie - they are fiddly, but that cream cheese pastry with the filling is soooo good.
ReplyDeleteA delicious cookie!

I agree...these were soooooo good! Your filling looks delish!
ReplyDeleteLooks perfect !!!!! you did a very good job :-) Loved these cookies
ReplyDeleteLooks tasty! I made the fillings from scratch, but I know these would have been fabulous with preserves. If I had some raspberry jam/preserves, these would be all gone right now.
ReplyDeleteAddictive they are! I made a chocolate/cherry and fig/apricot. The fig/apricot was to die for! The chocolate a bit dry. Can't wait for tomorrow to send these away so I will stop eating them!!
ReplyDeleteI had my first ruglach last summer when I was working at a bakery. It was Ah. Mazing. So buttery and creamy and rich and sweet! These little gems look so delicious!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of Rugelach before but they do look and sound delicious. A bit like a Christmas Mince Pie but with cream cheese added? I'm not surprised you rewarded yourself with four!
ReplyDeleteUnexpectedly good for me too!!!
ReplyDeleteyours did come out cute =)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad we baked them, because on my own I'd have said they were to difficult, but in the end, I loved them!
I was also pleasantly surprised, I was expecting to not like them at all. Glad you love them, they look delicious!
ReplyDeleteThey are so delicious! Yours look yummy!
ReplyDeleteThese were good, but probably more fussy than I would normally get.
ReplyDeleteApricot jam was a nice shortcut :-)
I'e never tried it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I bet the flavor was perfect!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed them! Yours turned out way better than mine.
ReplyDeleteThey look great! I went with raspberry and chocolate, more similar to the other TWD recipe. I'm scared of apricots. And prunes. :)
ReplyDeleteI underestimated the time commitment necessary for these babies - it felt like an eternity had passed by the time they came out of the oven. ;) But, they were good!
ReplyDeleteThe best kind of surprise!
ReplyDeleteI ate way too many of the rugelach I baked too!
ReplyDeleteSO glad you liked them, they are one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteLooks like your filling choice worked great.
ReplyDeleteI love rugelach. Yours look more than tempting.
ReplyDeleteI did make them after all and I'm so glad I did!
ReplyDeleteNice choice of fillings, great job!
ReplyDeleteYes! I did not expect to enjoy these as much as I do! Making them was a little trial, but I made notes so I know how to make them a little easier and hopefully faster next time.
ReplyDeleteThey are definitely addictive! I took mine to work as soon as I could!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious!
ReplyDeletegreat job, these look scrumptious :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great flavor combo! They look divine!
ReplyDeletei kept my filling pretty simple, too. these look terrific--i'm sure the crowd was happy to gobble them up!
ReplyDeleteThese truly are addictive! I think I'll make them again at Christmas;-)
ReplyDeleteThese were delicious!!!! Yours look lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of yours! Yours look so juicy and delicious. I have never had any with this much fruit in them...I think I could eat four of them as well. Great job and very nice photo of them.
ReplyDeletegood to hear that you loved this one, I didn't enjoy making it and never got to enjoy a slice in the end.. it kinda sucked like that. ugh. :)
