BWJ - Rugelach

Don't you just adore it when you unexpectedly love something?  That was the case with this week's Baking with Julia, hosed by Jessica of My Baking Heart and Margaret of The Urban Hiker, who chose Rugelach.  Rugelach are a Jewish cookie/pastry made with a cream cheese pastry and filled with fruit preserves, fruits, nuts and spices.  Traditionally they are made in a crescent shape, but this recipe made the cookies in a roll shape.

I filled my rugelach with plain old apricot jam, dried apricots, raisins and almonds.  They were totally delicious - so addictive that I ate 4 of them myself before turning them over to the crowd, which is unheard of for me.

  5. never made them but have had them on my to do list - your love of them will bump them up the list just a little (if they sounded easier they might go up even higher but they seem fiddly)

  6. Johanna, I won't lie - they are fiddly, but that cream cheese pastry with the filling is soooo good.

  10. Looks tasty! I made the fillings from scratch, but I know these would have been fabulous with preserves. If I had some raspberry jam/preserves, these would be all gone right now.

  11. Addictive they are! I made a chocolate/cherry and fig/apricot. The fig/apricot was to die for! The chocolate a bit dry. Can't wait for tomorrow to send these away so I will stop eating them!!

  21. They look great! I went with raspberry and chocolate, more similar to the other TWD recipe. I'm scared of apricots. And prunes. :)

  22. I underestimated the time commitment necessary for these babies - it felt like an eternity had passed by the time they came out of the oven. ;) But, they were good!
