TWD - Custardy Apple and Kale Cake

This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe is Custardy Apple Kale Cake. It is a hybrid sweet-savoury cake, and as Dorie says, is like an omelette but more elegant.

The cake contains apples, kale, cheese, eggs, flour and salt and pepper. I may have been a little skeptical (cue savoury muffins -yuk), but this cake is delicious.

I kept half and gave half to the neighbours. My half made a delicious lunch with boiled egg and tomato over a few days.

To see what everyone else made this week and what they thought of it, visit the LYL section of the TWD website.

  1. Oh that looks delicious...I bet your neighbor is really happy to be your neighbor! I'm going to see how it freezes as I kept half out and cut the other half in four slices to freeze. The taste reminded me of a quiche in disguise...and I do love quiche. Yours looks so nice and full and fluffy. Great job. And I still love that blue plate. :-)

    1. Thanks Judy. When I measured out the cups, it’s hard to know what is “accurate” with springy green leaves, but it all worked out.

    1. Kim, I agree! When someone mentions kale, it is not something I am drawn to, but this was so good.

  6. Yum! Great idea to throw in an egg (so perfectly cooked) and tomato on the side.

    1. Thank you! The egg did not behave when I peeled it, but I decided to go with a slice of (imperfect) real life.
