FFWD - Scallops and Double Carrots

We are slowly making our way through the fish dishes in Around My French Table, and this week for FFWD, the recipe was Monkfish with Double Carrots.  It seems that this month, we are having a double vegetable theme as well as a fish theme, with our celery-celery soup last week and our double carrots (carrot juice and carrots) this week.

I couldn't find monkfish so I took up Dorie's suggestion of using scallops instead.  I also struck out on the carrot juice, and not possessing a juicer, opted for store bought vegetable juice which included carrot juice.  Bacon rounds out the flavour combination of this dish.

I thought that this dish was really fabulous - the soft golden scallops were complemented wonderfully by the sweet carrots and salty bacon. I'd make this again.

To see what the other Doristas thought of  this dish, see the LYL section of the FFWD website.

  2. This week I'm REALLY in the minority, based on the feedback I've seen in FB this week. I didn't care much for the sauce or the monkfish.

  4. We loved it, too! Even Bill (but I had to make it with shrimp for him).

  7. Absolutely loved the scallops with this dish and it probably was cheaper than monkfish... if I could find it? I don't think many of us could.

  8. This was a fabulous dish in taste, texture, and ease of preparation. The carrots in carrot juice with bacon - just genius. Glad you enjoyed this!

  9. I had a hard time finding plain carrot juice too and had to settle for carrot-orange juice. We'll see how it goes.

  10. We have a juicer, so I just made enough for the recipe. Now I have to figure out what to do with all the pulp, though. I think this would be fantastic with scallops, too.

  11. I thought this dish was great too. Though I can find fresh carrot juice at the store, so it was easy. Mine were scallops - delicious. Your dish looks wonderful! (no post for me, just a picture on facebook... it got busy)

  13. I loved the concept of this one. I used a different kind of fish, but scallops must have been pretty great too. Definitely on the repeat list for me.

  14. Great results. I went ahead and tried the monkfish since they actually had it at the local store but will likely revisit this with scallops next time. Yum.

  15. I love scallops and wanted to buy them however I knew the kids prefer the cod. I was surprised to see monkfish was available at the local seafood shop however for same reason I went with cod :)
(I couldn't find orange juice either so used the nudie juice with orange apple and ginger, tasted good :) )

  16. I never serve scallops and carrots together as it always seems to me that it would be so sweet, but this looks really good and you did like it a lot...I need to give this a try.
