FFWD - Sable Breton Galette - er, Cookies
It's Friday again, and that means French Friday with Dorie. This week's recipe is Sable Breton Galette with Berries. However, Dorie's Bon Idee is to turn the galette into cookies by adding a bit more flour and adding two egg yolks instead of one whole egg to the mixture. As cookies are more portable and I wanted to take the dish to work, the cookie suggestion was perfect.
I used the slice and bake method for my cookies - why make life harder by rolling out the dough?
These cookies may not win any beauty contest, but they taste fantastic - crisp and buttery, and not trying too hard for attention.

These look good and for a minute I thought about making cookies instead of the full sized galette but I needed something for a dinner party. I'll be making the cookies for sure - I bet they tasted amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea to make the recipe into cookies! :D
ReplyDeleteI could go for a cookie right now - so these really look good to me!
ReplyDeleteI too thought about making the cookies but in the end opted for the galette. It was worth the trouble. But the cookies would surely be great in a pinch.
ReplyDeleteTasting good is all that matters!
ReplyDeleteButtery cookies are the best. Who cares what they look like?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of making these portable - and am wondering if you still had any with berries? I think I'd like that combination!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to make cookies, but I thought I would be too tired to babysit them so late at night when I made the galette dough! Great post!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to make a batch of cookies-I can imagine these would taste so good;-) Have a wonderful weekend ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love sables…cookie or crust they are wonderful! They look yummy!
ReplyDeleteI bet these were wonderful! Lucky workmates :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you made these - I was curious to see how they'd turn out. I can just imagine how good they were based on the flavor of the tart crust!
ReplyDeleteI love slice and bake cookies. And I loved the taste of the tart crust, so I'll give these a try when I want something simpler. You should definitely try the galette next summer. You won't be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI do love a good slice and bake cookie--so handy to have on hand!
ReplyDeleteLooks tasty. I had a few slices of the case also plain and it was delicious.
ReplyDeleteNice looking sablé cookies - these must have been such at treat for everyone at your office - what a nice gesture to share them at work!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend!
What I really wanted to do was eat the giant shortbread cookie I made. Instead I spread lemon curd on it and topped it with berries. Sooooo, your and Dorie's Bonne Idea was something I considered seriously. They look delicious and I am sure your co-workers are loving you.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that you made cookies. I am behind and did not make this one (but enjoyed Nana's results....) and didn't realize the bonne idee was for cookies. I am 100% trying that as I adored this crust. Great job !!
ReplyDeleteI do love a buttery biscuit like this - impossible to stop at one!
ReplyDeleteAbsolultely nothing wrong with a good cookie. And this would have been a GREAT cookie.
ReplyDeleteTaste is everything, right? And who doesn't love a good cookie? I would eat a cookie over most anything else every time. Although your cakes always look fabulous so it could be a tough choice at times. Nice job.
