FFwD - Back-of-the-Card Cheese and Olive Bread
It's French Fridays with Dorie time, and this week's recipe is Back-of-the-Card Cheese and Olive Bread. Why? Because the recipe was off card provided by a cheesemaker.
I was sceptical about this one, especially as it is an unyeasted loaf. However, I needn't have worried - it was absolutely delicious. I am not normally a fan of savoury cakes and muffins, but I loved this. I ate slices of it as is - no spread is required. It is good warm and cooled.

This one was good, wasn't it - even if I did "go rogue" a little ;)
ReplyDeleteThis was pretty good, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteI guess I need to pay more attention to the backs of my food packages. I wonder what I have been missing...
I've found some of those back of the packet recipes quite interesting and often quite reliable :)
ReplyDeleteit looks lovely - recipes on packets can be surprisingly good
ReplyDeleteOh, after the Savory Cheese and Chive bread from a few years ago, I wasn't skeptical at all.
ReplyDeleteThis is a savory bread to make often, with whatever cheese and extras are in the fridge. Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it came out really well. I need to experiment more with savoury baking. A free recipe card is also always nice, especially when the recipe is decent!
ReplyDeleteI never look behind, I really should :D
ReplyDeleteDelicious!
Cheers

You're absolutely right. This bread is great just as is, no spread. But, Gaye, spread some really delicious butter on it, and it's fabulous. That's my problem - if there's bread, my butter won't be far behind. Your loaf looks delicious. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did (and, most of us.) Betsy can now automatically set the LYL so we post early for you. Hope that's helpful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary, that's really helpful.
DeleteHi dear, this look really delicious!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see and readthat this easy quick bread was such a success for you - it was indeed a very nice recipe to get creative with!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend!
I am glad you liked the loaf! I was sure I'd love it, I love olives and sun-dried tomatoes, I have no idea where mine went wrong! Maybe I should play around with the fillings.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I'm enjoying this more the next day. Toasted. I'm glad to know this one even though breads, especially before dinner, aren't my thing.
ReplyDeleteI loved the fact that there was no yeast involved in this recipe... yat again it didn't really feel like making bread... more like making a savoury cake/bread!
ReplyDeleteGlad this one surprised you. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad yours was so tasty! I'm going to have to try this again with less salty olives :/
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks delicious! I ate several slices as is too.
ReplyDeleteI love olive bread - I used to get one in switzerland that had olives and gherkins...heaven!
ReplyDeleteI had doubts about its un-yeasted-ness too but then it had a lot of baking soda so I wasnt too worried after that :)
ReplyDeleteLove the slices of whole olives!
ReplyDeleteWow, your photo really presents a case for me bookmarking this one, it looks just gorgeous and I can almost taste it looking at it. Must make it soon. Has all the hallmarks of it being a success around here.
