FFwD - Swiss Chard Pancakes

This week's French Fridays with Dorie recipe is Swiss Chard Pancakes.  In my case, they were actually spinach pancakes, as I could not buy Swiss chard.

These pancakes are from a fairly standard pancake batter with chives and spinach blitzed through it, and cooked in the usual way.  I made a third of the recipe to yield 7 pancakes.

I served my pancakes with aubergine, mango and chilli jam on some and with cottage cheese on the others.

These pancakes were OK, but probably not something I'd make again.

  1. I probably WILL make these again since I always get tons of swiss chard in my organic delivery ;)

  2. Your chard pancakes look good-sorry to hear they didn't knock your socks off! Maybe covered in melted butter and drowning in maple syrup might make you swoon!? Just a suggestion...Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Are they kind of like zuccini bread?

  4. The jam sounds like an interesting side - I did like the "easy factor" of this dish. What's easier than pancakes, right?

  5. I am sure I would love these - though I am not sure it would replace my favourite spinach pancakes which are bright green.

  7. Agreed, pretty standard except for the no baking powder thing.

  8. I like your toppings... we were definitely very into the toppings.. but we did really like the pancakes too... I wonder if they taste better with chard?

  13. Spinach probably made them tastier. They sound so good with the aubergine mango jam!

  14. I also though these were just OK. Maybe I would have liked them better with aubergine mango jam than plain.

  15. Wow - that jam. I've never heard of an aubergine, mango and chilli-jam combo. Sounds interesting and unique. Honestly, with the cottage cheese? I think you went overboard with the healthy mantra. I liked these and will try them again - perhaps as a crepe - and plop some different toppings on them. After looking at everyone elses Posts, maybe you will be inspired to try this recipe again. I was. Then, maybe not! I am provising a Link to the Ottolenghi salad and hope this comment will "take it" - if not, just google it. Worth trying it. It's addictive. Go easy on the sumac the first time. http://www.lottieanddoof.com/2012/10/baby-spinach-salad-with-dates-almonds/

  16. Interesting, swiss chard (or spinach) pancakes...not sure that I would make/enjoy those, but yours look sweet and innocent and I might just like to try one.
