FFwD - Steamed Lemon Spinach + Orange Scented Green Lentil Soup

It is Good Friday, and it is also French Friday with Dorie.  I am home with my family for a visit, which is nice and relaxing after a crazy few weeks.

This week's FFwD recipe is Steamed Lemon Spinach - I made this at the start of the month to go with the Chicken Diable, and it is really easy and really good.  I feel deprived if I don't get greens with my meal these days - as a child I couldn't abide them!

I also caught up on the Orange Scented Green Lentil Soup:

I didn't mind this soup, although I did find the orange flavour rather strong (from orange peel that is boiled up and pureed with the other ingredients.  I didn't strain the soup - I like the "chunky" consistency.

To see what the other Doristas thought of this week's recipe, visit the LYL section of the FFwD website.

Enjoy your hot cross buns and fish and some quality time with your nearest and dearest this Easter.  Ciao!

  2. The spinach sounds interesting-I've never added lemon to steamed spinach but I'd love to give this a try! I also can't go without greens :) Happy Easter!

  5. I've got a silverbeet recipe with lots of lemon that I loved but still don't repeat but I think I might love the spinach - the soup with the orange peel pureed sounds unusual - not sure what I would think

Have a great easter - it must be odd to go home and not have fred there - hope your visit home is relaxing and gives you some time to remember him.

  8. And, happy family time back to you. Your green leafy spinach looks beautiful and delicious (and, nutritious). I liked the quite strong orange flavor in the lentil soup but it is either "yes" ir "no" with that. I am a "chunky" gril (in all ways, unfortunately).

  9. Your choices are definitely perfect for Good Friday. I did not puree the soup, so the orange flavor was subtle. Happy Easter

  16. Enjoy the holiday with your family!

The lemon steamed spinach was a hit for us, too. I agree with you on feeling deprived when there are no greens on offer. Back in my youth, I had an employer who used to take me out for dim sum regularly. She used to roll her eyes when I insisted on getting gai lan, but all of the meat and starch really needed a veggie antidote.

I was worried that the orange in the soup would be overwhelming, but I was pleasantly surprised.

  19. Hope your family time is wonderful! The spinach is good and easy, isn't it? I haven't made the lentil soup yet. My husband won't eat lentils...

  20. Two great FFwD recipes...I have got to get organized and jump back in on some of these. Or at least keep the book on the counter and cook from it and not bother posting...which seems to be the holdup with me these days. Your photos are very nice of each of these...makes me want to make them right now.
