FFwD - Top-Secret Chocolate Mousse - Epic Fail

This week's French Fridays with Dorie recipe was Top-Secret Chocolate Mousse.  Unfortunately, in my case, it was more like Chocolate Soup with Chunky Bits.  As soon as I added the egg yolks to the chocolate, the chocolate seemed to set, so trying to stir egg whites through it was a lost cause.  In the end, it was a sloppy sea of chocolate  with bits of hardened chocolate through it.  Ewww!

As a welcome distraction, I present my Aussie 12 Days of Christmas teatowel that I bought in Daylesford on the weekend:

I think any true blue Aussie would love this teatowel with its Aussie references - where else but Oz would you have 6 boomers hopping or 9 nippers racing?

Also, I discovered some new flavours of Allens lollies this week:

There are caramel chicos (in addition to the ordinary chocolate ones), Milk Bottle Mania (containing chocolate, vanilla, lime, banana and caramel milk bottles), and Mad About Teeth'n'Stuff for lovers of "foam" lollies.  I love the milk bottles and caramel chicos, and am yet to try the teeth etc.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I had my failure on Tuesday, I guess it's your turn. I'm sorry--it's never fun to spend time making something just to have it fail!
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Unfortunately, I had a double fail this week - both the muffins from TWD and this mousse. I was about ready to kick myself out of the kitchen on Saturday...

  4. Sorry about the mousse! That is a great tea towel though - very cool indeed. Where did you find it, out of interest?

  5. I do my best to weed recipes that have a fail condition out of my repertoire. Too much stress otherwise.

  6. I think I would be very happy with that teatowel - it would be something to cheer me up if I found the mousse just didn't work - ad I love milk bottle lollies - they taste of childhood

I'm sorry your chocolate mousse didn't work, how disappointing! Aren't we lucky to find other ways to enjoy our chocolate?!!

  14. have you tried it again? I think a few of us had issues with our first batches,.. I made five myself and none of it went to waste lol - I have a nearly two year old and a husband that are determined not to let chocolate go to waste around here!
Oh btw, did you see that we are doing a FFWD christmas card exchange? details are on my chocolate mousse post this week!

  16. Sorry to hear that. I hate it when my chocolate seizes up, always seems like such a waste, but sometimes no matter how careful you are, it just happens. Better luck next time.

Mine didn't work out very well either, but we ended up having it after dinner and enjoyed it. Though not my favorite recipe. Oh well!!

  19. Sorry to hear that your mousse was soupy. The Aussie candy looks like fun, though. And the teatowel is charming.
