Mmm, custard tart ... This week, our Tuesday with Dorie host, Beryl of Cinemon Girl, chose Dorie's Toasted Coconut Custard Tart.
This custard tart is nothing like Lionel's beloved custard tarts in "As Time Goes By". Rather, this tart is a coconut-and-rum-flavoured pastry cream extravaganza topped with rummy whipped cream.
Here's the custard going into the tart shell:
And here is the final product with whipped cream topping prior to cutting.
This dessert is calorifically-evil, but absolutely delicious. This is my piece:
To see what the other TWD members thought of this tart, visit the TWD blogroll. If the thought of a rum and toasted coconut tart is too hard to resist, you can buy the book or visit Beryl's blog for the recipe.
Since you won't share, can I request one of my own?
ReplyDeleteYou somehow even manage to make coconut look good.
ReplyDeleteLOL Duckie, sure!
ReplyDeleteHi Jules, I gather you aren't a coconut fan - but as Dorie said, even those who don't like coconut like this!
i love "as time goes by"..probably seen each episode about 5 times! i'm pretty sure lionel would be a big fan of this custard tart, too!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous dessert! I love it! I will be posting later tonight. Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteI just wanna dive head first into that tart...
ReplyDeleteGood old Lionel! I loved As Time Goes By and I love custard tarts :-) Glad you enjoyed it too!
ReplyDeleteThis was a delightful treat! I don't blame you for not sharing. Your tart looks great! Im glad you enjoyed the recipe. We did too!
ReplyDeleteI skipped this week, but I know I would have liked this. Your tart looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteOh coconut!! I've been craving coconut lately! Yum!!!
ReplyDeletePlease? can I have a piece :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, I've been meaning to make a coconut pie for simply ages! This looks fabulous! :D
ReplyDeleteYum! What is it about coconut deserts? I just love them. I think because they are all so fatty.
ReplyDelete*kisses* HH
Your tart looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteYour piece looks a lot smaller than the one(s) I had! Thanks for baking with me!
ReplyDeleteSo tasty looking. I love the texture of your crust.
ReplyDeleteThe tart looks great! "Calorically-evil" is a perfect way to describe this tart, it was so creamy and dense, no way to convince yourself otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI've been obsessed with coconut lately. Obessed, I tell you. This coconut tart looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so yummy but your piece is too small - I would need at least DOUBLE that! hehe
ReplyDeleteThis seemed to be a winner all the way around this week! I haven't found a post yet where someone didn't like it :)
ReplyDeleteThat is all the bigger of a piece you are having?
ReplyDeleteGirl! You got issues.
I cut one large piece so that I don't have to go back for seconds and look greedy....only now that I think of it...cutting one large piece looks greedy too.
Can't win.
Oh, Lionel! I forgot about dear old grumpy Lionel and his irritating publisher/agent/whatever he was.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll be forgetting about this tart any time soon though. Oh how I long for a piece. Time is going by so very slowly without it...... :(
I love as time goes by - very funny! Your tart looks lovely & no sharing is completely understandable!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so delicious! I love coconut...yum!
ReplyDeleteNIcely done.
ReplyDeleteThat was a pretty small piece for the baker. I wouldn't share either.
I'm not surprised you're not sharing - I don't think I would, either.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nudge - I need to cook with coconut more. One of my favourite flavours.
Looks good...Never had a coconut tart....if I have, can't remember but this looks like a memorable one!
ReplyDeleteCoconut custard? Wow, what a combination. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a great fan of coconut in food but I have to say this sounds rather delicious!! Especially the rum in it!!
ReplyDeleteNever had a coconut custard before. I love coconut so I am sure I'd love this combination.
ReplyDeleteHow did you get that filling to stay so perfect??? Mine kept spreading so I guess I need to work on that a bit yet. This was SO good! Very rich. Yours looks lovely and that plate is very nice.
