Our TWD host this week is Kristin of I'm Right About Everything, who chose Dorie's Milk Chocolate Mini Bundt Cakes.
Because of a drama involving my flat and the flat directly above me, these cakes nearly never got made, and as it was, they were made by torchlight last night. I have consequently not yet tasted these cakes, but they sure smelled good during cooking.
I loved the nutty cocoa ribbon through the middle of these cakes - it looked quite pretty on the outside of the baked cakes, and is sure to give them an interesting texture. I used the last of my pecans left over from Christmas baking for the ribbon. Heck, I even bought milk chocolate, as directed, for the cakes. (You have no idea how much it hurt to melt an entire block of Cadbury's Dairy Milk!) However, I do confess to using water icing for the glaze - I was not going to melt yet more chocolate for that, and many fellow bakers in the P&Q said that the glaze was a fail for them.
I ended up with 12 mini bundts. I had originally planned to make a single bundt cake, but once the batter was together, I realised that that was never going to work - there just wasn't enough batter.
These cakes are certainly cute, but I am not sure I'd make them again, no matter how good they are, when they contain a whole block of good eating chocolate. Me, myself and I, chocolate wins over cake any day!
To see what the other TWD members thought of these cakes, visit the TWD blogroll. Thanks to Kristin, our host this week, who will have the recipe at her site.
They look delicious with the blanket of chocolate on top. I hope everything is ok with the two flats! :o
ReplyDeleteThey do look very cute and I love your butterfly plate!
ReplyDeleteI agree completely about wasting good chocolate on cake.I like chocolate cake, but honestly, give me actual chocolate over it any day of the week.
ReplyDeleteDairy Milk wouldn't bother me though, I can afford that! Are you on a ration? When I lived abroad, I used to ration my PG Tips tea bags, and strictly. I love being able to buy them everywhere and at reasonable prices again!:)
Really cake law I think they look really cute!!xx gloria
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Ireland in 2007 I couldn't get enough Dairy Milks! Found them back home, but they aren't the same. Your mini bundts look great!
ReplyDeleteNow I wish I had included the swirl! They look good, and could have used the excitement. I'm just the opposite of you, though--I'd take cake over chocolate any day!
ReplyDeleteMy, my. These look good! They look like mini chocolate doughnuts. :)
ReplyDeleteThe glazed was not a true success indeed, but I managed.
ReplyDeleteYours looks pretty darn great, very, very well done, Cakelaw!
LOL on the "eating chocolate" part. Love the little cakes, though, they look very nice. I didn't know what to do about that icing either, so I just added more corn syrup and at least it drizzled a little...am not that great at drizzling anyway. They look lovely, now, more about that drama.....LOL.
ReplyDeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleteI tweaked my recipe a bit, and made them in a muffin tin.
These look great. Glad you were able to make them. I think I would rather just eat a bar of chocolate too.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo on your blog header! This was a yummy recipe. I was gifted a 10 lb block of yummy milk chocolate--so I was happy for another recipe calling for milk chocolate.
ReplyDeleteThe minis look cute, and I love the plate! I certainly hope that the drama in is over and you have light in your flat.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had an opportunity to make them and I hope you enjoyed the cakes. They are adorable and that is a beautiful plate.
ReplyDeleteYour minis are adorable, just the perfect size for a little snack without guilt! I hope things work out with your flat. Enjoy your nice hot summer, we're chilly here even in "sunny" California.
ReplyDeletethey look so delicious that I admire your self control - if I smell cake out of the oven it is hard to stop having a taste of warm cake - hence I am not much interested in icing - just warm cake!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it was very difficult to melt all that tasty chocolate. Your mini bundts are very cute!
ReplyDeleteCiao ! The minis are as pretty as could ever get !! Is the drama over ? I hope it was nothing too serious !!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, my muffin pans must have been huge because it only made five for me! Yours are adorable. I'm sorry you had so much trouble!
ReplyDeleteWe had drama this weekend in our apartment building that involved flooding due to a sprinkler pipe that had frozen and then burst. It went all the way from the 4th floor to the 1st floor and almost all of those residents had to be moved to other buildings. We were very lucky not to have been affected, but so easily could have. I'm so sorry that you had drama in your flat and I hope that it has been resolved.
ReplyDeleteI do apologize for my late response-somehow this got buried on Google reader and I seem almost incapable of keeping up this week-so sorry.
Your cakes look delicious-next time I make these, I think I will go with a peanut butter glaze-I wish I would have thought of that sooner!

ReplyDeleteThanks to all on your kind comments about my drama. The immediate cause of damage has ceased, but there is still repair work to be done.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they taste yummy, as with all the other gorgeous things you churn out in your kitchen. :)
ReplyDeleteI used dark chocolate. These were tasty but dry. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteThey'd be great for like a little tea party. :)
ReplyDeleteHow pretty. I have to make some more mini bundt cakes. I have the tins - but not the time :)
ReplyDeleteThey look great! thanks so much for baking with me this week!
