TWD - Great Grain Muffins
Fruit and grains sounds healthy, right? Well, I am convincing myself that they are, as this week's Tuesday with Dorie recipe contains both of them. Christine of Happy Tummy chose Dorie's Great Grain Muffins, and these contain three sorts of grain - wheat, corn and oats (or in my case, wheat, oats and rye), as well as fruit (I used dates).
These muffins were easy to put together, as they did not require an electric mixer, and baked fairly rapidly - in around 20 minutes.
They also taste really good - despite not having that much sugar in them, the sweetness from the fruit and maple syrup buoyed these muffins into the arena of sweet treats.

ReplyDeleteOoh! Those look tasty with the dates. Plus, the look of your muffins really pops because of the pretty bright blue wrappers!
ReplyDeleteWe loved these. I used dates, too, although I can see by your insides that I didn't use nearly enough of them! Yours look great. Mine also were a little flat on top...I made them twice, same result...oh well, flat or not they tasted great!

ReplyDeleteEven though I have a mixer still like doing recipes that don't requite the use of one as it's easier for cleaning! :) they look great!

ReplyDeleteI find a lot of muffins have an almost cake-like sweetness, so having a less sugary breakfast recipe works well for me :)

ReplyDeleteIts strange because in the UK people say muffins in 2 ways... we have "english muffins" and we have "Muffins" which i guess refers to the american sweet muffins... although ive read u can have zuchinni mufffins which sounds gross to me but each to thier own!

Dates would be so good in these! These were good muffins, and at least healthier than a lot of Dorie's recipes!
