TWD - Maple-Star Anise Cookies

For Tuesdays with Dorie this week, I made Maple-Star Anise Cookies.  These cookies contain ground star anise, cinnamon and ginger.

Dorie said they would spread - and boy, did they spread.  I made sure that the dough balls for the cookies were small and evenly spaced, but it made no difference - I ended up with this:

I had planned to give these cookies to friends as gifts, but thought twice about it after getting this result.  However, after tasting the cookies, I decided to go ahead.  These cookies taste amazing, even sans the cream cheese frosting that Dorie suggests to sandwich them together with.

I subbed the whole wheat flour for buckwheat flour so that I did not end up with another bag of hardly used flour in the pantry.  I also find that whole wheat flour often smuggles pantry moths into the house, so I declined to go there.

  1. Ooh these sound really interesting! I know what you mean-when they spread they sort of look a bit bitten off but it sounds like they were super tasty.

  4. Looks like you ended up with one giant cookie. I am glad they tasted good. I keep my flour in the refrigerator due those pesky moths.

  5. When they spread like this you feel like you could just spread the mixture over the baking tray rather than the bother of rolling balls but I think they sound lovely no matter how much they spread
