TWD - Peanut Butter Change-Ups



There is a new Tuesday with Dorie group baking from Dorie's Cookies, her latest book.  I only found out about this group by accident, so I am posting today instead of on Tuesday.  Luckily, the first month's recipes are on the Web, as the book was only released at the end of October.  It is quite appalling how much more we have to pay for books in Australia - this book costs $20 on Amazon, but the cheapest Australian source was nearly $50.   I have paid $41 Australian dollars to get this book from Amazon after postage, whereas US postage from Amazon is free.  I do not understand it, but if we want certain books here, we have to just suck it up. 

I chose to make the Peanut Butter Change-Ups from the two choices.  The recipe is online here.

These cookies were delish. I left out the extra peanuts because I didn't have any, and I left the sugar off the top because I didn't think that it needed it.  The cookies are soft and cake-like, but are still very much cookies.  I only made a half recipe because I didn't ant the 54 cookies that Dorie stated were in the full batch, but I only got 22 cookies out of the batch.  That's fine with me - I ate two already and don't need the temptation.

  3. My goodness. I'm sorry you have to pay so much extra for the book. That really stinks. However, you're cookies look yummy and I'm looking forward to trying this recipe soon.

  4. Your photo of the cookies looks wonderful. I really like these cookies, but like you they had to exit the house pretty fast. I did save two for me and have been enjoying those. I'm so glad you're in this group because you were always a big inspiration for me. xo

  6. we find books cheaper when we go to the uk - it is annoying but must be hard making it as a bookseller in australia which is a shame as I love to visit a bookstore far more than browsing amazon. The cookies sounds interesting but I much prefer peanut butter than separates so am not sure how mine would turn out if I made them!

    1. So do I Johanna - for some reason they don't even seem to stock Dorie Greenspan's books here. I try to buy new releases from Dymocks as they often have good discounts.

  12. Cookbooks can be very expensive in Canada, too, unfortunately. These look so good and I'm glad to know they work without peanuts. I loved your comment about making a half batch. When I make a full batch of one of Dorie's recipes, I make sure I'll have a chance to share, share, share!

  13. Your cookies look great! I know the feeling,...I live in France and I usually buy all my books as Kindle copies because it is cheaper. But, I SO love having hard copy of cookbooks!
