WWDH - French Onion Soup

For Wednesday with Donna Hay this week, Sarah chose French Onion Soup from p28 of Modern Classics I.  I did have a sense of deja vu with this one, and sure enough, found that we had made it in February 2013, before Sarah joined us.  Oh well, it never hurts to make the classics again, and we are finding that we are all going back to the same recipes subconsciously because they were good.

I liked this well enough, but only made a quarter recipe because I didn't want to swim in soup all week.

To see what Sarah, Margaret and Chaya thought of this soup, visit their websites.

I find I don't get back to repeat as many recipes as I would like so making a classic again sounds like a good thing to me. Did you choose not to top the soup with bread and cheese or did the recipe not cal for it - the bread and cheese is always my favourite part of french onion soup :-)

French Onion Soup has been on my "to do list" for months now, Gaye. I don't mind if you share the it more than once. Perhaps one of these days I will actually make some, lol...

Thanks for sharing, Gaye...

Haha! Whoops, sorry for choosing a repeat. It's a classic, I agree. I made the full batch and froze four portions for later (after Anthony and I enjoyed large bowls for supper). You are right, it is a big recipe!

Most soups make quite a large batch so it's nice this one lends itself to a quarter recipe. Sometimes the classics do serve repeating!

Hi Johanna, I just skipped it - I only have stale bread and I don't have any cheese in the house at present :)

LOL...you all should have known immediately that I had picked this soup at some point as FOS is my favorite soup of all soups of all time...I order it everywhere and I try every recipe I ever come across for it!! There is no way a FOS soup recipe would appear and I would not have picked it...lol! See...you all miss me, you really do...lol! ;-)
