FFwD - Ann Le Blanc's Pistachio Avocado - err, Macadamia Avocado

This week's French Fridays with Dorie recipe is - well, not really a recipe.  Half an avocado squirted with lemon juice and the cavity filled with oil and sprinkled with salt - in Dorie's case, pistachio oil, in my case, macadamia oil.

Spread on an English muffin, it's nice - but so is plain avocado with salt on a muffin.  I splashed out on the oil for this recipe, but I don't really think it was necessary.  I am sorry to say that I was not inspired by this dish.

To see what the other Dorie cooks thought of this recipe, visit the LYL section of the website.

I really enjoyed this one - mainly because I have never had pistachio oil and it was a delightful discovery! I would love to taste the macademia oil - might have to get some when I come home to visit in December :)

I looked at the ingredients, but kind of missed the part where you were supposed to put it in the well :-)
Macadamia oil makes me think of macadamian nut cookies. Now, I want a cookie!

sometimes simple is best - I like the idea of fancy oils but then I just think I could avoid the expense and the calories and probably be just as happy - I guess if you butter your bread then the oil might be an alternative to that (but so is avocado)

Mixed reviews all around on this one. It certainly looks lovely and I have never had macadamia oil so that should be something I should find and buy to try at some point soon. Nice photo of it. Definitely makes me want a bite!

I was more jazzed about eating an avocado.

I think any nut oil would be fine for this dish. Sorry you weren't more impressed with the results...I enjoyed it :)

That's too bad it didn't wow you, considering the expense of nut oils. Perhaps you'll come up with a more satisfying use for the oil - macadamia nut oil sounds intriguing.

I'm a big fan of nut oils so I think I would have still loved this had it been filled up with mac oil.

Oh I'm sorry that the dish didn't really cut it for you. I actually really liked this one, especially the oil bit which was a bit of a revelation for me.

Funny the different oils which are easier to find in different places. I don't think that I've ever seen macadamia nut oil. Bet it would be interesting to try with something else.

Sorry to hear this wasn't your favorite. I do love avocado spread on toast though. I never tried it on English muffin, but that sounds like something to try.

Hehe what an interesting recipe! Although I do think that it sounds delicious :) Sorry I've been absent, I've been travelling in China and they don't allow blogger blog domains! I've been dying to see what everyone has been up to!

I had not tried either nut oil so am no help in comparing but will say the folks who bought the expensive actual oil said it was darker and full of flavor. So now I really want to try some and after reading your post I will be keeping my eye out for mac oil too !!

I saw the macadamia oil in the supermarket and wondered how it would taste?

I am always open to new avocado recipes and this one looks like a winner. Off to pull Dorie, off the shelf.

I think macadamia oil is a perfect trade-off to pistachio oil so if that didn't wow you, then the PO wouldn't probably either. I had to leave a large can of walnut oil behind in Nevada and didn't want to purchase more until I get settled (by the end of the week). I used Meyer Lemon Oil and thought this was a quick easy side. Your Posts show you're making lots of tasty goodies. Sorry this one didn't wow you.
